Big Fat Pusscat

A mixed bag of life drawings, leftover claw monster that I'd held off posting,, and a thumbnail of a nursery rhyme.
Oh and a big fat pusscat, which began life as an unfinished watercolour and is now instead currently unfinished in photoshop with only about 10 minutes of tweakage done.
Still.
This weekend it all has to happen, time is ticking down, and I need to pull some beatuiful coloured illustration out of somewhere.
We'll see...

Life but not as we know it

Well its still late, 15 minutes laterish.
Not much point in discussing my life drawings without showing them,- the head was the last (finished) one so you can see things were getting better.
Its definitely a flow, remembering to look for alignment, judging scale and orientation, seeing whats curving in front and whats behind. And I'm remembering.
And making up what my poor old blind eyes can't make out because they're poor old blind eyes.

Here be monsters

Its late and I don't have time for the comic version of my vitriol. Why are all these people fighting monsters? Very similar monsters with big claw hands? Well you know when you feel like you're getting nowhere in your career? Like fighting a relentless horror? I rest my case.
As for the stiffly posed booby girly? Well thats a dabble of a sketch that got out of hand and finished in a state of depression. So while the nudie bit is kind of cheery(from a male point of view) but the periphery is woe. The astute might notice I relocated the origin of the snake dragon, this is to avoid it beign mistaken for the devil guys schlong. Tut Tut.
On the positive I started back at life drawing after a nearly 2 year hiatus, and toward the end of my second time back it sort of felt like I was remembering the flow/what I had to do.
Plus they have long poses so I don't have to panic, can get actual shading done(!), and can calmly get on with it.

I'm so glad I not currently involved in animation at 'day job' work, for today I saw how the status quo is maintained (ie fucked/animation is the lowest priority/nowhere near enough is good enough for programmer types),
and I'm sooooo glad its not my problem.
My problem is getting better and doing coloured work for my Illustrators Australia page.
And thats more than enough to keep me busy.
But that's the last you'll hear of my day job work,
because this blog isn't about it,
its about me,
or as pete might say "its the art stupid".

What do you do?

While waiting for a game to build say, or an animation you were doing to preview in max?
You doodle- thats what.
Here then are some olde doodles,
and a newish dinosaur.
Yes another dinosaur.
Because its easy thats why.
And because its late and i couldn't be arsed scanning in any new stuff.
Actually mynew idea is in future posts everything will be images, and if I have anything to say, or explain why my career is going nowhere and the country is going to hell -well some funny critter is going to have to say it for me with a voice balloon.

Brillig

Twas brillig and the slithy toves did gyre and gimbal in the wabe, all mimsy were the borogroves and the mome wraths outgrabe

Well here's my aborted brillig picture- I shoulda gone with one of my thumbnails but I just winged it instead- and the result is a kinda patchwork.
Still, I like my toves, although I didn't do their whiskers really, but you get the whole gyre and gimaballing thing in the background there.
The Raths are too piglike I think and need to be more tapir like.
My motley bunch around the pot aren't sufficiently motley for my liking, and you can be sure if you see them again it will be a picture of dank disfigured motleyness.
The borogroves- well they probably ought to be more storklike instead of hornbill like.
Ah well its more a first run comp of ideas so its not so bad.

Just to change topic, maybe I ought to work from reference photos. I mean I have a whole bunch of reference books but I never use them as reference the way people do,- I study them, then put them away and start drawing with what I tried to remember and what I already knew.
Seems stupid to do it the hard way, but then I want the stuff I do to be 100% me.
Sigh, and why aren't there website fairies that come and fix your website overnight like the ones that sort out cobbler's labour issues?
Humph
